Tips 25.09 - 27.09

Nowhere to go now that BAW is no more? Wrong. We are truly excited to get back to normal, epecially since our tips include places we have not visited yet, conversations with art celebrities, the art of pizza-making party, and so much more!

WHY: From 18.30h, and with a special tour starting at 19.30, ZK/U hosts another evening of open studios, artists' presentations and shows. 19.00 In Extenso - Erweitert: Social Context @ DAZ

WHY: Can both art and architectural projects represent a state of final equilibrium, of accomplished order, and maximum relative entropy within the social and cultural context they are inscribed in? An open exchange of such insightful questions and  answers on the edge of architecture and different disciplines within visual arts will take place at DAZ with the curator Karima Boudou, Jimmie Durham, and Laurence Kimmel.

DAZ Deutsches Architektur Zentrum / Köpenicker Straße 48, 10179 Berlin, U Heinrich-Heine-Str. / free entry / more info

19.00 Blick zurück nach vorn – Künstler über Deutschland @ Neuer Berliner Kunstverein

WHY: Premiere screening of the first film to talk about Germany from the perspective of contemporary artists sounds like something that should not be missed. The question of national identity, changes that occured with globalization and migration, and new challenges that Germany has to face, are some of the issues that resonate in the statements of the featured artists and curators. The film takes a look back and a look forward, and shows how the country reflects itself in the art. The screening will be followed by a discussion with Cornelia Schleime, Maria Anna Tappeiner, and Karin Thomas.

Neuer Berliner Kunstverein / Chauseestrasse 128/129, 10115 Berlin, U Oranienburger Tor / free entry / more info

FRIDAY 26.09

19.00 Personal Territories @ okk/raum29

WHY: okk/raum29 presents a group show featuring works by six international artists. The exhibition includes installation, video, photography, sound, public intervention and performance, and creates a journey through a hotel room, a checkpoint, an outdoor semi-private space, a boxing arena, and the next door neighbors. Observe the borders between private and public spheres as blurred transitional zones, as 'non'-spaces, as places we pass by everyday, and often do not notice.

The exhibition will also include works from her "Romantic Disease" series which explores the history of tuberculosis from artistic, social, and scientific perspectives.

14.00 Open House 2: The Long Walk Back to Mitte @ ACUD MACHT NEU

WHY: In recent years, numerous art venues had to close in Mitte, and gradually it seemed to lose the last remnants of independent cultural life. Although almost foreclosed in 2013, the Kunsthaus ACUD now receives its operating culture with new forces. A day-long program of concerts, DJ sets, screenings, theatre plays, exhibition, food, and even a special program for kids, will make it the liveliest spot in Mitte and Berlin-wide. And did we mention it is all for free?!
