WEDNESDAY 19.02

19.00 Dorothy Iannone. This Sweetness Outside of Time. Paintings, Objects, Books 1959-2014 @ Berlinische Galerie

WHY: The Berlinische Galerie is showing an extensive retrospective of Berlin based artist Dorothy Iannone, which will be the first to address all aspects of a unique artistic opus rich in splendour, humour and the erotic. Her œuvre, which now spans more than fifty years, includes painting and visual narrative, autobiographical texts and films. Since the 1960s she has been seen as a pioneering spirit against censorship, for free love and autonomous female sexuality. The exhibition is accompanied by a side program with movie screenings, readings and a concert which will begin on Feb 24th. A catalogue entitled „Dorothy Iannone. This Sweetness Outside of Time. 1959-2014“ will be published by Berlinische Galerie.

18.00 Narrating War @ Haus der Kulturen der Welt

WHY: In "Narrating War", HKW places conflicts of the recent past and the present at the center, from the civil wars in the former Yugoslavia to the wars in the Middle East, in the Gaza Strip and in Syria. In roundtables, in panels, and one-on-one, the participants will discuss doubts and fears, errors and the unspoken, coincidences and taboos – the “making of” behind professional reporting which normally remains hidden from news consumers. The discussions will be complemented and contrasted by readings by actors and a selection of documentary films.

18.00 Anna Talens – Beauty and Decay @ Espace Surplus Le Grand

WHY: As a part of the new exhibition project "Between You and Me" curated by Bettina Springer, the Spanish artist Anna Talens is set to correct the "wounds" in the fulminant space of the old building in Wallstrasse. Anna Talens' site-specific exhibition is about to accentuate its wonderful coalescence of beauty and decay. The art installations created for this place are only to be seen for the duration of the exhibition.

18.30 Open House and Presentations @ ZK/U

WHY: Artists in residency at ZK/U - Center for Art and Urbanistics will open the doors of their studios. The public is invited to come and take a look into the artists' work spaces, get familiar with the different projects that are presented, as well as meet the residents and discuss their works with them.

19.00 How To Show? Lab For Research and Art #01 @ Gitte Bohr

WHY: In collaboration with European Society for Research and Art EGFK, Gitte Bohr presents an exhibiton with three artists studying for PhDs at the Bauhaus University in Weimar and at the University of Ulster in Belfast. This exhibition project brings together artistic positions, which all venture into the context of artistic-scientific research and have a shared interest in anthropological questions or methods.

19.00 The Pitch plays „The Complete Sets“ @ Mindpirates

WHY: The Pitch have created a personal musical language and a body of work ranging from quartet music to extended, large-scale ensemble pieces involving guest musicians and further conceptual elements. For this concert they have developed a four-hour piece which maps the totality of their pitch material and the different possibilities in instrumentation and interaction.The piece will be played from 20h to midnight, and the audience may come and go as they please. Drinks will quietly be served throughout the entire event.

17.00 Real Emotions: Thinking in Film @ KW

WHY: The thematic exhibition "Real Emotions: Thinking in Film" is devoted to affects and emotions in the moving image. It explores the question of how films shape its audience's collective experiences and individual fantasies, thus practically influencing our view of the world. Alongside an archive of over 70 excerpts depicting emotions in film, it presents works by artists who use the medium's tools to produce “real” emotions.

18.00 Netzkultur: #3 Identity Sucks @ Haus der Berliner Festspiele

WHY: Netzkultur conference looks into the aspects of how the reality of our lives has been changed by the digital era. Digital identities have become a playground for the reinvention of the self; they feed into artistic self-perception, and stand out from all kinds of analogue identities with their nicknames and pseudonyms.The third edition of Netzkultur named "Identity Sucks" adresses itself to this multi-faceted topic, with lectures and actions, discussions and music.

19.00 Mirja Busch – 27 Desert Days @ L'Atelier-ksr

 

WHY: In the exhibition "27 Desert Days", photographic works accompany sound and material installations to create pieces that engage with the contemporary experience of landscape. Through her work, Mirja Busch questions the conceptual principles of land and environmental art. Approaching the subject critically, skeptically, and humorously, Busch’s works highlight the deep entanglement of landscape experiences with transport infrastructures as with geo-referencing systems, breaking away from the romantic understandings of landscape.
