Tips 24.07 - 26.07

Tips 24.07 - 26.07

Not in the mood for the lake, the sunburns, and the creepy fact that you might get bitten by weird underwater creatures? No sweat! Take our advice and stick to the safe ground where the party is at.

THURSDAY 24.07

18.30 Openhaus @ ZK/U Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik

WHY: Artists in residence will open the doors of their studios for four days, and present the projects they have developed during their time at ZK/U. Take a look into the studios, get familiar with the different projects that are presented, meet the residents and discuss their works with them. PS. Pizza-party included! Bring your own ingredients!

ZK/U – Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik / Siemensstrasse 27, 10551 Berlin, U Birkenstrasse / open through 27.07 / free entry / more info

19.00 Birds and Other Mythos @ Cruise & Callas

WHY: For this summer exhibition, former museum director Veit Loers will curate an exhibition with the works by the students of the UdK class of Thomas Zipp.  "Birds and other Mythos" will also include works by Thomas Zipp and selected outsider artists. If you're looking for something creatively refreshing and inspiring, this opening should be your ultimate destination this week.

19.00 About Sculpture #2: Quality Engineering @ Lady Fitness

WHY: Do not let the name of the gallery mislead you: nobody will expect from you to sweat in +30 degrees at an art show opening. On the contrary, there will probably be some cold drinks to cool you down and set you in a mood for intellectual socializing exercise. At an exhibition with works by eight artists, there will be plenty of things to comment on. Get ready for a small talk marathon!

Lady Fitness / Stromstr. 11 - 17, 10551 Berlin, U Turmstr. / free entry / more info

FRIDAY 25.07

19.00 Eva Kietzmann / Petra Kübert – Living resorts @ Uqbar

WHY: Due to the privatisation of urban space, Berlin is not what it used to be, and it keeps changing in the direction which turns our smiles into frowns. In their new sound installation, the artist duo deals with this topic and refers to the growing "lifestyle-wasteland" in the city center. By means of artistic intervention and performance, they appropriate the places which have been transformed by new architectures of exclusive living concepts.

Uqbar / Schwedenstr. 16, 13357 Berlin, U Osloer Str / open through 07.09 / free entry / more info

19.00 Restoration (from the series Lembrança de Brasilia / Memory from Brasilia) @ die raum

WHY: Laercio Redondo's installation "Restoration (from the series Lembrança de Brasilia / Memory from Brasilia)" is part of an ongoing project that focuses on modernist architectural utopias and the work of Athos Bulcao, best known for his tile designs for the Brazilian capital, however less well known for his democratic methods of involving the construction workers in the creative process. Take this show as an opportunity to upgrade your knowledge about Brazil beyond the basic World-Cup-level.

die raum / Oderbergerstr. 56, 10435 Berlin, U Eberswalder Str. / open through 31.08 / free entry / more info

19.00 Nicole Wendel - s/w @ Scotty Enterprises

WHY: For the upcoming exhibition "s/w" at Scotty Enterprises, Nicole Wendel created black & white photographs, as well as white chalk drawings on two blackboards representing a landscape. During the performance at the opening of the exhibition, the artist will transform the white chalk drawings. Do not miss your chance to be there when the magic happens!

Scotty Enterprises / Oranienstrasse 46, 10969 Berlin, U Moritzplatz / open through 16.08 / free entry / more info

20.00 Dry Paint Collective @ Das Gift

WHY: DRY PAINT is an art collective formed in New York in 2013. Their name is inspired by the ubiquitous WET PAINT signs you see in the NYC subway, as a reminder that signs are not always accurate. With members in New York, LA, and Berlin, they come together for a group show at Berlin's Das Gift. We are especially looking forward to this one, since it is our very own Nathan M.'s debut show. Go Nathan!

Das Gift / Donaustrasse 119, 12043 Berlin, U Rathaus Neukölln / open through 27.07 / free entry / more info

21.00 Igor Skaletsky & Noe Sendas + party @ Kaleidoskop

WHY: A perfect blend for a hot summer night loaded with potential for the unexpected, when you are more than ever willing to try out something new, or you are simply too lazy to leave your Kiez. Neukölln's Kaleidoscope offers to both kinds of folks this tempting three-in-one event, with an exhibition opening, followed by a basement party with live acts, and a late afterparty with DJs. Fun fact: stamps will be valid to go back and forth to Kaleidoskop and Loophole parties during the DJ sets!

Kaleidoskop / Boddinstr. 7, 12053 Berlin, U Boddinstr. / exhibition entry free - party entry €3 / more info
