The GALERIE IM TURM was founded in 1965 as an exhibition venue of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR (VBKD). It has been located on the first floor of the North Tower at Frankfurter Tor, designed by Hermann Henselmann, for over 50 years. Since 1990, it has functioned as the municipal gallery of the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district. It shows contemporary positions of mostly Berlin-based artists.
