“Robotron – A Tech Opera” is the first soap opera set in the computer industry of the GDR and deals with computer development in a planned economy and everyday life in East Germany. VEB Kombinat Robotron was the largest computer manufacturer in the former GDR and one of the most important producers of information technology in socialist Eastern Europe. Inspired by her own family history, Buttendorf deals with the political, material and social conditions of working, living and loving together in the people-owned company Robotron. The artist assumes all roles and functions in the film: direction, camera, script, make-up, costume, sound design, lighting and all acting roles.
