Tips 27.08 - 31.08

Tips 27.08 - 31.08

Instead of mourning the end of summer, put on another layer of clothes and celebrate the social life that is blooming around the many events in the coming days. We are not even talking about the super eventful September, but the last week of August, which seems to be the comeback week for the most. Get ready for one opening after another, and plenty of parties and fun events before, after, and in-between.

WEDNESDAY 27.08

12.00 Ease Your Window Down @ L40

WHY: Paula Doepfner 's installation "Ease Your Window Down" deals with the life and afterlife of Rosa Luxembourg. A block of ice with a text excerpt about the politician suspended inside will be shown at the corner of Almstadtstraße and Rosa-Luxembourg-Straße when the sun begins the melting process. Make sure to get there while the work is still in progress!

Almstadtstraße / Rosa-Luxembourg-Straße, 10178 Berlin, U2 Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz / more info

THURSDAY 28.08

18.30 Thomas Hirschhorn - artist talk & opening @ Schinkel Pavillon

WHY: Schinkel Pavillon presents a new installative and site-specific work by Thomas Hirschhorn. For "Höhere Gewalt," Hirschhorn will not add an artwork to the exhibition space, but instead deconstruct it. Or, more precisely, turn it into a scene of accident - exposing the inner structures of the Schinkel Pavillon, and challening the integrity of the institution. Join the artist talk at 18.30h and hear all about it from the artist before the opening of the show.

Schinkel Pavillon / Oberwallstrasse 1, 10117 Berlin, U2 Hausvogteilplatz / free entry / more info

FRIDAY 29.08

18.00 Avantgarde of Almost Complete Blindness @ District

WHY: An extensive performance, music, and video program at District will give you plenty of reasons to spend your Friday evening there. It all starts at 18h with Laura McLardy’s ArtAndArchitecture-Installation "Line of Least Resistance". From 20h, the interdisciplinary happening "Avantgarde of Almost Complete Blindness" will be experienced as a spiritual séance with experimental music, and at 22h, Zorka Wollny will show her most recent video work.

District / Bessemerstraße 2 – 14, 12103, S Südkreuz / free entry / more info

19.00 Money Works Part 2 @ Haus am Lützowplatz

WHY: There are so many easy references to money, and that alone is an answer why an exhibition such as this should be interesting. Today is characterized by financial crises, almost inexplicable high prices in the art market, and personal experiences shaping a wide range of works presented in numerous exhibitions. "Money Works Part 2" unites current works by international artists, which critically or humorously deal with this topic.

Haus am Lützowplatz / Lützowplatz 9, 10785 Berlin, U Nollendorfplatz / open through 12.10 / free entry / more info

19.00 Julia Krewani - All Round @ Scotty Enterprises

WHY: Julia Krewani shows a selection of her plastic art and kinetic objects in an exhibition with a suggestive title. Her work is dedicated to the small things, the unsuspicious stuff of our daily environment that we use and discard without regard. By giving the objects new dimensions and possibilities, the artist will draw your attention to the unmeaningful, irrevelant and neglected things, and show you their hidden potential.

Scotty Enterprises / Oranienstr. 46, 10969 Berlin, U Moritzplatz / open through 14.09 / free entry / more info

SATURDAY 30.08

19.00 Barbara Probst @ Kuckei + Kuckei

WHY: The new works by Barbara Probst are involved with the concept of simultaneity: multiple cameras, all focused on a particular scene, are each connected through a radio control system and release at the same moment. The artist puts the resulting photographs together as multi-part works. The individual pictures in these sequences provoke the viewer to rethink the subjectivity of looking and being looked at. The artist's endeavor to cast new light on the photographic activity offers an opportunity to challenge the defining power of images.

Kuckei + Kuckei / Linienstraße 158, 10115 Berlin, U8 Rosenthaler Platz / open through 11.10 / free entry / more info

19.00 Cycle 3: Christina Mackie / Matt Mullican @ Praxes

WHY: Praxes opens its doors again in grand style for the third Cycle, which is dedicated to the artistic practices of Christina Mackie and Matt Mullican. A half-year of consecutive exhibitions, Papers, and Parlors focusing on the two artists will be inaugurated this Saturday. The evening features music, pies, and drinks for purchase, plus free servings of gin & tonic and wine for early birds!

Praxes / Alexandrinenstr. 118-121, 10969 Berlin, U1 Prinzenstr. / free entry / more info

SUNDAY 31.08

20.00 Project Space Festival Final Party @ Bar Babette

WHY: The first-ever Project Space Festival is counting its last days for this year. Sadly, we cannot have it all year round, but we can at least celebrate a wonderful eventful month. For enthusiastic fans, the Final Party offers another chance to see images of the entire festival from beginning to end. And for those who only want to party on Sunday, good music and cool drinks are a minimum to expect at this festive get-together.

Bar Babette / Karl-Marx-Allee 36, 10178 Berlin, U6 Schillingstr. / more info
