Tips 12.03 - 15.03

Tips 12.03 - 15.03

Our tip #1 is to go out immediately, lie on the grass in a comfortable position (we suggest the one in Falk Haberkorn's drawing – see above), and soak up the sunshine until the moon replaces the sun. The next best thing to do is to nurture your mind with art and music, preferably at the places we recommend you to visit this week.

WEDNESDAY 12.03

19.00 Erik Steinbrecher - Untitled Monochrome @ OZEAN

WHY: "Untitled Monochrome" by Erik Steinbrecher is a floorpainting for OZEAN - far beyond imagination. This seascape is made of a huge amount of salts and water; mediterranean salt, black krim salt, atlantic salt, tropic salt, indian salt, aborigines salt, and many more.

OZEAN / Schleiermacherstrasse 31, 10961 Berlin, U Gneisenaustrasse / show open through 02.04 / free entry / more info

THURSDAY 13.03

17.00 Birgit Brenner - Selbst Schuld / Your Own Fault @ Galerie EIGEN + ART Berlin

WHY: "It was supposed to be a story about knocked-out front teeth. Now they're somewhere in a box. Among all the things she's long since lost track of. (...)" The usual everyday press release is replaced with a story, which serves as an intriguing teaser for Birgit Brenner's exhibition "Your Own Fault". Birgit is said to be one of the "most radical contemporary artists", which is another reason not to miss the opening of her show.

Galerie EIGEN + ART Berlin / Auguststrasse 26, 10117 Berlin, S Oranienburger Str. - U Weinmeisterstr. / show open through 19.04 / free entry / more info

18.00 Peter Klare - En Plein Air @ Invaliden1 Galerie

WHY: In the exhibition "En Plein Air", Peter Klare presents a number of small landscape paintings, together with a large scale one. The shown paintings were created outdoors, in the snowy, partly monotone pine-tree forests that surround Berlin. A free and open approach to allegedly old topics is taken as an excuse to expose, to test freedom, romanticism, and painting. Far from conceptual picture strategies and from painting “en vogue”, the artist releases a fresh winter breeze from the forest into the sunbathed city.

Invaliden1 Galerie / Schönleinstr. 25, 10967 Berlin, U Schönleinstr. / show open through 19.04 / free entry / more info

19.00 FEED 031314: Mika Vainio, Pierce Warnecke @ KW Institute for Contemporary Art

WHY: This week's FEED features performances by Mika Vainio and Pierce Warnecke. Mika Vainio, one half of the pioneering electronic duo Pan Sonic, is also known for his unique solo projects, mainly abstract drone works and minimal avant techno. Pierce Warnecke is a sound and video artist, who will be performing "Memory Fragments", a piece that explores recordings as memories by taking samples of a physical space.

Artworks by Annette Kelm will be on display in the other half of the gallery.

19.00 Brad Downey - Sculpture, Leftovers and Documentation @ Haus am Lützowplatz

WHY: Brad Downey works with various media to reflect on concepts about the Establishment versus the audience. His first institutional solo exhibition in Berlin is mainly a selection of videos that document the interventions in public space, with which he provoked a lot of attention internationally in the recent years.

Haus am Lützowplatz / Lützowplatz 9, 10785 Berlin, U Nollendorfplatz / show open through 27.04 / free entry / more info

SATURDAY 15.03

18.00 Falk Haberkorn - Hastily Rendered Men @ KLEMM'S

WHY: Falk Haberkorn examines the border between image and language, formation and formulation, photography and text. The question of how the artist can inscribe himself into the world, into history as well as into the present is crucial to and often reflected in his work. Dealing with memory and tradition, preservation and erasure, conferment and loss, is the basis on which he elaborates his scripture-images and performative site-specific works.

Klemm's / Prinzessinnenstr. 29, 10969 Berlin, U Moritzplatz / show open through 19.04 / free entry / more info

WHY: "Berlin 1927" is the latest project of the Belgian band We Stood Like Kings.
