Tips 10.09 - 13.09

Tips 10.09 - 13.09

In a few days the spelling game called "BAW & abc" will once again turn the city into an art playground and/or shopping center for the spiritually and/or materially rich. Even without knowing it, you could tell that there is a storm coming only by seeing the events columns suddenly flooded with openings. This is our narrowed choice for the week, and for the full list, you know where to look

WEDNESDAY 10.09

18.00 Work in Public @ Decad

WHY: Berlin is richer for another art venue! Its name is Decad, and it opens its permanent space in Berlin with the group exhibition "Work in Public". This inaugural exhibition aims to establish a growing archive of projects realised in public space by contemporary artists. Wine will be present at the opening, so do not hesitate to drop by and cheer for at least a decade of decadently successful shows.

Decad / Gneisenaustrasse 52, 10961 Berlin, U Südstern / open through 26.09 / free entry / more info

20.00 mikromusik @ Various locations

WHY: Bored with the omnipresent minimal music? Need something smaller, weirder, slower? Mikromusik might be the answer to your prayers – a five day festival of experimental music and sound art, investigating the concept of "micro" in music in a series of concerts, sound installations, audiovisual performances, and free workshops. It is good to mention that the festival is happening in context of the 50 year anniversary celebration of the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program – just in case you need another proof of excellence.

Various locations / ongoing until 14.09 / €10-12 / more info

20.00 DOKU.ARTS @ Zeughauskino Berlin

WHY: DOKU.ARTS is set up as a two-year research programme under the name „Second Hand Cinema – Perspectives for Artistic Documentaries“. The official opening of this year's edition will take place on Wednesday with the German premiere of Regarding Susan Sontag, a documentary everyone has been waiting for – the film essay on New York’s number one feisty female intellectual. The month-long festival program is basically a list of must-sees for film buffs and art geeks, so no need to think twice about spending the next month at Zeughauskino Berlin.

Zeughauskino Berlin (Deutsches Historisches Museum) / Unter den Linden 2, 10117 Berlin, S+U Friedrichstrasse / ongoing until 12.10 / more info

THURSDAY 11.09

19.00 Otavio Schipper - Elevator music /Fahrstuhlmusik @ die raum

WHY: The modest dimensions of die raum are sometimes a blessing, sometimes a curse, but in any case, it is precisely what makes it interesting. In his new work for die raum, Otavio Schipper is especially occupied with its claustrophobic dimensions. In line with the surrealistic aesthetic of Schipper's oeuvre and his tendency toward the mechanical traces of early modernization, the installation references concepts of time and the subconscious.

die raum / Oderbergerstrasse 56, 10435 Berlin, U Eberswalder str. / open through 26.10 / free entry / more info

20.00 Bsynthome @ ZK/U Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik

WHY: An environment composed of kinetic installations, incomprehensible instruments, video cameras and objects resembling primitive organisms, geologic finds or artifacts, forms the core of the Bsynthome system. Inspired by mystic and scientific approaches, it aims at exploring dynamic interrelationships and cycles within a fictitious system. If you miss this winner combination of plain awkward and pure genius on Thursday, make sure you get to ZK/U on Saturday for the second performance evening starting at 20.30h, followed by a series of performances curated by FEED.

ZK/U Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik / Siemensstrasse 27, 10551 Berlin, S Beusselstr. / €6 - 8 / more info

FRIDAY 12.09

19.00 Anneke Eussen – Circle Lines @ Cruise & Callas

WHY: In her solo exhibition "Circle Lines", Anneke Eussen presents a new body of work comprised of objects and drawings. They fascinate by the formal purism typical for Eussen's artistic language, but they also trigger challenging thoughts on the definition of contemporary art production itself. Make  this opening an appointment for brushing your art dissecting and debating skills, for BAW and abc are just around the corner.

Cruise & Callas / Alexandrinenstr. 1, 10969 Berlin, U Prinzenstr. / open through 25.10 / free entry / more info

SATURDAY 13.09

19.00 János Fodor - Overmorrow @ Grimmuseum

WHY: With the presentation of János Fodor's early works, the exhibition will give an overview of his oeuvre while newly produced works are functioning as a snapshot of his current practice. His pool of themes is inexhaustible, as well as his formal realisations through sculptures and objects, painting, prints, and photographies. A variety of artworks will reveal you Fodor's idea of finding better questions to well-known answers.

Grimmuseum / Fichtestraße 2, 10967 Berlin, U Schonleinstr. / open through 25.10 / free entry / more info

19.00 Unbreaken @ L'Atelier-ksr

WHY: ‘unbreaken’ is an embedded experience based on persistence and disruption practiced through a publication, an exhibition project, and a program hosted by the artists-in-residence. They invite the audience to orbit different situations and events happening at L’Atelier-ksr and into public spaces. The public is confronted with an experimental collaborative approach to a publication that exceeds its material boundaries and finds its selves taking over spaces, relationships, and even dreams.

L'Atelier-ksr / Grossbeerentr. 34, 10965 Berlin, U Mehringdamm / open through 19.09 / free entry / more info
