Music Tips 16.02 - 29.02

Music Tips 16.02 - 29.02

Some beautiful creatures from the music sphere are to be seen and heard in Berlin in the following days. The list below gets even prettier with a few tickets which we saved for you. Stay alert and we'll see you soon. (Ticket giveaway via facebook.)

20.00 Grimes @ Astra

WHY: Unless you lived in complete isolation for the past few months, you probably know that Grimes has a show in Berlin this week. A show by one of the biggest and weirdest pop idols of today is something that is interesting to experience regardless of fondness (or lack of it) for her music and the brand image that surrounds it. Tickets are officially sold out long ago, but there is always a way to get one where there is will.

Astra / Revaler Str. 99, 10245 Berlin, S+U Warschauer Str. / more info

21.00 You Don't Really Know Me @ Monarch

WHY: James Kelly is until recently best known as a member of Altar Of Plagues. Using found sounds, home made instruments and field recordings as a base, Altar Of Plagues creates music "Full of radical tangents and alien-to-black metal elements, more focused on frailty and struggle than majesty and grandeur" (Pitchfork). These ideas transfer to James' solo recordings as WIFE, which also reveal his interest in electronic music. YDRKM will be a chance to get familiar with the lesser known side of his musical taste.

Monarch / Skalitzer Str. 134 (1st floor), 10999 Berlin, U Kottbusser Tor / more info

TUESDAY 23.02

20.00 Jaakko Eino Kalevi + Melting Hearts @ Kantine am Berghain

WHY: If you haven't heard about Jaakko Eino Kalevi already, now is the right time to catch up. Jaakko is returning from the world tour to his adopted home of Berlin for a headlining gig at Kantine am Berghain. Last year we saw his live show, heard and adored his first self-titled album, and we can only expect big things to keep happening to this talented Finn.

Kantine am Berghain / Am Wriezener Bahnhof, 10243 Berlin, S+U Warschauer Str. / more info

THURSDAY 25.02

20.00 Junior Boys + Jessy Lanza @ Berghain

WHY: Junior Boys are returning to Berlin after 4 years, with a brand new album titled „Big Black Coat“. The sound of the new album is in line with their signature mix between R&B, electro and pop, but with much more going on: elements of industrial pop, techno and dubstep blend into the complex yet minimal structure. Supporting live act by Jessy Lanza will complete the night at Berghain.

WHY: Better Person is the music project of Berlin-based artist Adam Byczkowski. In celebration of his new EP, „It's Only You“ (Mansions and Millions), Puschen and Shameless/Limitless present this increasingly popular modern romantic live in concert at Urban Spree. Support comes courtesy of London based Promise Keeper. DJ Philip FM (Berlin Community Radio) will be fine tuning the mood before & after.
