MANIÈRE NOIRE
Motto: " I have packed myself into silence so deeply and for so long that I can never unpack myself using words. When I speak, I only pack myself a little differently." Motto II: " I was my own thief, the words came out of nowhere and caught me." "The Hunger Angel" Herta Müller After a moderate pause Manière Noire relaunches not only with a new look but also with new ideas and concept of future shows. The focus of the exhibitions will be the language, its presence, its absence and artful interpretations in between those two states. Words will be absorbed in to the flesh, words will be played with, words will be rearranged to create new texts and meanings within texts, words will be put in statements, words will be drawings, words will be sculptural installations... This does not mean abandoning the figurative, the representational codes of a descriptive convention and embracing only the conceptual and the ephemeral. As well it will not try to act as cutting-edge, innovational happening, as the language pieces began to appear in the beginning of the XX Century to intensify, mostly in the '60s and are still very present now. In the case of APPROPRIATING LANGUAGE Series, reinvesting with the text will be an experimental practice of contemporary artists who use the spoken/written word as an impulse of a further thinking and/or dialogue between them and other people, and as an essential communication and connection with each other as well as with the place we all live in.
