Are Mother shows the new Women shows?! Can't believe I missed this trend. I saw this work yesterday ( thanks to Camille Henrot and her Milkyway series) and it has stayed with me. It's called my dog is cuter than your ugly Baby" from Elina Brotherus @elinabrotherus. Her work addresses a topic that is still very much a taboo: that of involuntary childlessness: "I don't have children so I don't need to adopt any preconceived role of an adult. I can give normality the finger.”

If you find yourself nearby go visit this show at the Kunsthalle Mannheim through January 6. The show includes works from Louise Bourgeois, Rineke Dijkstra, and Paula Modersohn-Becker to Yoko Ono, Pablo Picasso, and Egon Schiele (because Google knows these last two fondled many an underage girls) .

Can you believe this story? Dr Penny here begs for an instalments plan to purchase an already (guessing heavily discounted) piece of Amy Sherald (pre Michelle portrait of course) then turns around and auctions it off for 4 millions !!!!! And the work is called Welfare Queen. You cannot make these things up. Read the story and stay tuned for more on ways to be protect your works from this type of  “collecting”.
Read the full article online “The Recent Sale of Amy Sherald’s ‘Welfare Queen’ Symbolizes the Urgent Need for Resale Royalties and Economic Equity for Artists” Cheryl Finley & Lauren van Haaften-Schick & Christian Reeder (Spelman College C’2020 and Curatorial Studies minor) & Amy Whitaker, November 22, 2021
- also, is artnet kind of functioning as an actual art journalism media?!

ON VIEW

On view SUSANNE PIOTTER – CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION @bba.gallery

The unfinished and the occasional madness of architectural language find a home in Susanne Piotter’s sculptures and prints. Her small-format concrete sculptures from the “Artefacts” series consist of individually cast parts, mostly two or three elements, which the artist combines together following the principle of trial and error.
The exhibition shows works that have all emerged from a playful and yet thoroughly methodical approach to finding forms, and is the artist's first solo exhibition in collaboration with the BBA Gallery.

GERRY JOHANSSON + JOHAN RÖING | PHOTOGRAPHY AND SCULPTURES
Dorothée Nilsson Gallery is pleased to present the group exhibition Photography + Sculpture with works by Gerry Johansson (Photography) and Johan Röing (Sculpture). As a symbol of continuity and timeless aesthetics, sculpture enters a stimulating dialogue with photography, which by its very nature aims to capture the momentary and the ephemeral. The geometric lines of Johansson’s black-and-white photographs are continued in Röing’s colorful sculptures, creating a system of reciprocal intervention.
