TOKYO by Gerry Johansson - part of the current exhibition GERRY JOHANSSON AND JOHAN RÖING | PHOTOGRAPHY + SCULPTURE at Dorothee Nillson

January usually feels like the longest month of the year. With a holiday hangover, another round of questionable family memories under our belly, presents we wanted but do not quite need, and the inherent uncertainty of new beginnings ( even if they are constructed ones) you stumble into the new year like … is it over yet. Is Covid over yet? Can we wear lipstick again? Awkwardly hug strangers? Travel without sticking things up our nose? Not quite yet. 2022 is going to be the Year of the Tiger if that offers any comfort to you; a  symbol of strength, exorcising evils, and braveness. I will take it.

Let us get down to the tips this week! Last chance to visit this beautiful duo show at Dorothee Nilsson Gallery; finissage on January 12th, 16-20h

Opening Thu, Jan 13. , 19h at Scotty Space Berlin FREEDOM’S JUST…
Video art exhibition with Anna Fiedler & Lilli Kuschel, Niklas Goldbach, Anne Haaning, Thomas Hawranke, Katrin Leitner & Walter Peter, NEOZOON, Sarah Oh-Mock, Franz Reimer and Clemens Wilhelm.
We have come to anticipate these carefully curated shows at Scotty, and this one is no exception; dealing with the concept of freedom as a capitalist tool. The interpretation of liberalism of Western democracies promises a free life; however, when we look at the inequalities and injustices in our societies, this noble principle does not apply to everyone equally: appearance, gender, wealth and education determine the degree of self-determination and personal freedom.
