Signs, writing, symbols, codes, and communication are closely intertwined, as they all function as sign systems for transmitting information and conveying meaning. Their purpose, therefore, lies in the encoding and decoding of information.

In the exhibition "Shifting Signs," five artists with different motivations and perspectives explore the question of the legibility of signs.

Factors such as background, aesthetic considerations, generational influences, reflections on the development of sign and communication systems throughout human and natural history and shifts in levels of meaning all play a role.
