Tips 01.10 - 04.10
One thing you certainly know and anticipate is the German Unification Day on Friday. Yay for the holiday! Now that you have all this free time, a question remains: where to spend it? As usual, we have some worthy tips for you right here.
THURSDAY 02.10
17.00 Alicja Kwade & Gregor Hildebrandt - Jetzt und in der Stunde @ Hinter den Vögeln
WHY: Niche Berlin has a new office space! It is called "Hinter den Vögeln", and is located on a cemetery, but do not expect a theme party or a special pre-Halloween tour. Instead, for the inauguration of the space the Niche team prepared a sophisticated double show by Alicja Kwade and Gregor Hildebrandt titled "Jetzt und in der Stunde". We wish that now and in an hour, and hopefully for a long time, it is a a space where good work and good times happen often.
Hinter den Vögeln (St.-Elisabeth-Kirchhof II) / Wollankstr. 66, 13359 Berlin, U Pankstr. / free entry / more info
18.00 The Forgotten Pioneer Movement @ District Berlin
WHY: On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall, District explores the experiences of the transitional European pioneer generation between socialism and post-socialism. Through performances at various locations in Berlin, an exhibition at District, and a public seminar, the project activates the process of bearing witness to these "last pioneers" who experienced the perestroika and the collapse of former socialist states as children and adolescents.
District Berlin / Bessemerstr. 2-14, 12103 Berlin, U Alt Tempelhof - S Südkreuz / free entry / more info
19.00 Robert Mapplethorpe - Sell the Public Flowers @ Galerie Thomas Schulte
WHY: Girls and boys, here is where you should go feast your eyes on the beauty of the male nude - at the opening of the exhibition by the master of the craft, Robert Mapplethorpe. For those who tend to blush easily, some flowers will be present as a motif in the photographs as well; for the sake of beauty, and to calm down the heart rate.
Galerie Thomas Schulte / Charlottenstraße 24d, 10117 Berlin, U Stadtmitte / open through 15.11 / free entry / more info
22.00 Berlin Art Party @ Zwei Drei Raum
WHY: We do not ask for explanation on why the Berlin Art Prize is throwing a party way after the ceremonies finished. In the holiday spirit, we embraced it as an excuse to relax (whatever that might mean). The point is to come early for drink specials, stay late for special drinks, shaking booties all the while to the music by Me, Myself & Ill, Figure 8 and Stephanie Comilang, with Funktion-One - the Berghain sound system. P-art-y!
Zwei Drei Raum / Gitschiner Strasse 20-22, 10969 Berlin, U Prinzenstr. / €3 before 23:30, €5 after / more info
FRIDAY 03.10
19.00 Christina Mackie - And Bird @ PRAXES
WHY: Often displayed in itinerant installations, Christina Mackie’s œuvre broadens into a continuum rather than a series of insulated works. At PRAXES these connections will unfold in three parts. The "And Bird" exhibition module, composed of existing pieces, takes its cue from a dual monitor work "Frog and Bird", in which a frog seemingly listens to a singing blackbird. This module loosely deals with performative materials and fabricated interactions.
PRAXES / Alexandrinenstrasse 118 - 121, 10969 Berlin, U Prinzenstr. / open through 09.11 / free entry / more info
19.00 Berlin Unlimited @ ZK/U Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik
WHY: Berlin Unlimited is the first transdisciplinary festival gathering arts, architecture and urban discourses to establish a picture of the contemporary Berlin 25 years after the fall of the wall. At the opening, you will have the chance to meet the the festival team and get to know about the program directly from the artists and architects.
