SOCIAL CONTEXT, Karima Boudou

In Extenso - Erweitert on the topic of "Social Context":
Curator Karima Boudou in conversation with Jimmie Durham and Laurence Kimmel.

Can both art and architectural projects represent a state of final equilibrium, of accomplished order and maximum relative entropy within the social and cultural context they are inscribed in? They concentrate a view of the human condition; and sometimes mark the steps of  progression. As if a man climbing the dark stairs of a medieval tower assures himself by the changing sights glimpsed through its narrow windows that he is getting somewhere after all.

Artistic direction of In Extenso - Erweitert: Marc Bembekoff (Curator), Matthias Böttger (DAZ), Cathy Larqué (Bureau des arts plastiques, Institut français).

In Extenso - Erweitert is a project by the Bureau des arts plastiques (Office for Visual Arts) of the Institut français, developed in the frame of the young curators program Jeunes Commissaires in cooperation with the Deutsches Architektur Zentrum DAZ. Four French curators - Agnès Violeau, Karima Boudou, Céline Poulin and Florence Ostende - have been invited to dedicate themselves to the themes of Performance, Social Context, Public Space and Storytelling in an experimental process based on a series of public discussions and workshops. An open and ongoing exchange between them, and with the invited artists, architects, thinkers from France and Germany shall be initiated.  On the edge of architecture and different disciplines within visual arts, the possibility of extended interaction for the participants arises. This context-shift, including performative and narrative expression considers the physical space as well as the social context.
