Piotr Pietrus: Unter dem Pflaster liegt der Strand

WIRWIR is thrilled to inaugurate their new outdoor space, ‘ a casual corridor ‘ - positioned between the two shop windows at WIRWIR. a casual corridor joins forces with other spaces in the city that have continual twenty-four-hour viewing access. Piotr Pietrus’ work starts the series of exhibitions with his show Unter dem Pflaster liegt der Strand.

In a statement about the work Piotr writes; I've been documenting the city-lead cleanups of these increasingly rare spaces. Just as the saying 'Under the pavement lies the beach' stems from the 1970's anarchist movements (among others), still today, resistance against profit-driven development flares up regularly in many forms on the streets. It is not only my goal to be a contemporary witness, but also to support this struggle through the use of a poetic lens and unique visual language. The selected photos come from a range of protests against gentrification and evictions over the last years and are part of an ongoing photographic investigation of the sites where the poetic and political intersect in the wake of a growing resistance towards social injustice and the ecological crises.
