Paper Positions

berlin
The sixth edition of paper positions berlin presents 52 international exhibitors from 28 April – 1 May 2022 with outstanding positions from contemporary and modern art on the subject of drawing and the medium paper.

paper positions berlin wants this genre to be focused on at the Deutsche Telekom Hauptstadtrepraesentanz, centrally located at Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin-Mitte, during the Berlin Gallery Weekend. The galleries and their artists are given a presentation opportunity, which is dedicated to the subject of drawing and the medium of paper with all its specific features, its fragility and its enormous versatility. In the spirit of its fair concept, which refrains from classic booths and is completely tailor-made for the most sensitive exhibits, paper positions berlin deliberately focuses on a salon-like situation. The limited number of exhibitors also underlines the character of a large theme-based exhibition. The spatial design offers an open overview as well as the possibility to directly approach individual artistic works and to perceive them in a mutual dialogue.

We are looking forward to a new award for 2022: the LEUE & NILL Award is presented annually for the best gallery presentation at paper positions berlin. When awarding this prize, which will be presented for the first time, the quality of the works shown is as important as the hanging that deals with the artistic content shown in a unique curatorial way. The award-winning gallery will receive substantial financial support for their participation in the fair from our new partner and sponsor LEUE & NILL.

The PAPER ART AWARD will be presented for the second time at paper positions berlin. This prize is founded and sponsored by Canon, d’mage, and Hahnemuehle. The Paper Art Award honors artists who work with paper as a material in an outstanding, stimulating and special way. The award, worth a total of 36,000 Euro, will be used for purchases by the  the paper art museum “Haus des Papiers” in Berlin. 2021 awards were presented to Fiene Scharp, Astrid Busch and Angela Glajcar.

Since 2019 paper positions berlin, together with RKA Rechtsanwälte Hamburg/Berlin, presents the paper positions award. The award, which is given exclusively to female artists, honors an outstanding contemporary position on drawing and the medium of paper and includes a special presentation the following year. The first winner was Hell Gette (2019), in 2020 Iris Schomaker was awarded. The winner of the 2021 prize is Nora Schattauer.

Tickets are available on site or here in the online presale.

The final hygiene concept of the fair is linked and adapted to the valid guidelines of infection protection. We recommend wearing a mask!
