Alternative ways of storytelling that celebrate the diversity of African women’s sexuality in film

Workshop with Sandulela Asanda for youth from 14 years old as part of The Future Is Afrika, film festival organized by Operndorf Afrika - in Cooperation with Archive bkj at SAVVY Contemporary

This workshop aims to examine and challenge the ways in which African women’s sexuality is represented and perceived in film. Participants:will engage in a critical analysis of existing narratives and stereotypes that have perpetuated harmful and limited representations of Black women’s sexuality. Through interactive discussions, participants will be encouraged to consider alternative ways of storytelling and representation that center and celebrate the diversity and complexity of African women’s experiences. Participants will be given the opportunity to learn from each other, share their own perspectives, and work together to change the dominant narratives about African women and sexuality in film.
