March 19 – 25 2017, SomoS presents the solo exhibition Afterimage by SomoS Artist-in-Residence Agnieszka Rowińska, which she prepared during her stay at SomoS Art House in Berlin. Afterimage is a large-scale interactive light/painting installation; an ephemeral and mysterious spectacle of appearing and moving shadows, structures, silhouettes and hues expressing thoughts surrounding spirituality and the supernatural.

Drawing inspiration from ideas surrounding the spiritual, such as hallucination, vision and epiphany, Agnieszka Rowińska creates images interweaving figuration and abstraction. A graduate from the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, her paintings focus on experiences of the unreal, the inexplicable and supernatural. Using a combination of painting, light and new media, Agnieszka explores the way in which these supernatural commentaries are encountered, developed and confronted according to region, class and background.
