Umut Azad Akkel - Holding My Drink in the Corner Performances | CSD Berlin

For CSD Berlin on July 25, 2025, we are bringing together an evening of sound, voice, and performance that moves across genres, atmospheres, and forms of expression. Berlin-based artists Merey Şenocak, İrem Apak (iremaum), Etkin Çekin, and Bekir Arslan will present individual performances exploring different approaches to sound, language, and presence. Together, their practices create an open and fluid space where sounds, words, and bodies meet beyond fixed categories.

Merey Şenocak
Merey Şenocak is a filmmaker and sound artist based in Berlin. Working across moving image, sound, writing, and objects made from biodegradable materials, her interdisciplinary practice explores relations between humans and more-than-human beings. Her work questions systems of representation, classification, and knowledge production through speculative and essayistic forms.

İrem Apak (iremaum)
Under the alias iremaum, İrem Apak is a Berlin-based visual artist and selector navigating ambient, downtempo, trip-hop, dub, and experimental sounds. Her sets act as extensions of her visual practice, unfolding as immersive journeys through texture and atmosphere.

Etkin Çekin
Berlin-based artist Etkin Çekin operates at the intersection of improvisation, avant-pop, art-rock, experimental sound, and adventurous club culture. Working under aliases like Et Kin and across projects such as God Is God and Hatemale, his output spans from tactile compositions to sludge-driven instrumentals and psychedelic electronics. Through his label Kinship and a commitment to collaboration, he fosters community-driven platforms that resist cultural homogeneity and champion underrepresented voices in an often narrow, western-facing art world.

Bekir Arslan
Bekir Arslan is a queer translator and interdisciplinary artist from Türkiye, currently based in Berlin. Working across performance, language, and collective memory, he approaches translation as an artistic practice, one that carries bodies, histories, and desires across borders rather than merely words between languages. His work dwells in the spaces where language falters, asking what remains untranslatable, and what new forms of kinship can emerge in the act of translation itself. He continues to develop his artistic practice in Berlin, where translation becomes both a method of survival and a site of queer imagination.
