SomoS presents a group show featuring artists that approach tropical subject matter from an eerie and melancholy sensibility.

These artists peel away the veneer of sublime tropicalia to reveal the uncanny nature of a purely symbolic paradise. They expose the irony inherent in certain aspects of exuberance that suffuse latin cultures, and by juxtaposing certain cultural components of leisure, holiday, and celebration with indications of avarice and artifice these artists manage to achieve an unsettling balance of sensation and cynicism.

The absurd, the unexpected, and the false merge, and make apparent the sinister side of paradise; where all is not as it seems, and hopes and dreams are marred by darker realities.
