Sylvia Henrich: At your fingertips I see my moving lips, or not?
Sylvia Henrich
I’m in doubt, I’m no longer sure: did I see that or dream it? What did I see? Is there a referent, or are they just samplings of old images? New technologies are rapidly changing the emerging images of our world. We must constantly learn to read and decipher them and learn how the power relations connected to them are constantly shifting. Bound by their fluid materiality, digital images can be intercepted, copied, or modified at lightning speed at any time. Nor is the ‘original’ code of an image a static structure. Like a musical score, it is constantly reinterpreted by various technical devices and temporarily performed on their surfaces. In a continuation of Sylvia Henrich’s exhibition for EMOP 2023, visual materials of various types and production methods once again enter into dialogue – subjectivity meets autocorrection. Through a ‘subversive approach to technical process’ (Sabine Weier), the artist orchestrates collisions that reveal the structures behind them and give rise to new imaginative spaces.
