with works by KETUTA ALEXI-MESKHISHVILI, JAGODA BEDNARSKY, KASIA FUDAKOWSKI, ISABELLE GRAEFF, HANNAH HALLERMANN, NADIRA HUSAIN, VERENA ISSEL, KATARINA JANEČKOVÁ WALSHE, MICHELLE JEZIERSKI, CAROLINE KRYZECKI, MONTY RICHTHOFEN, NADINE SCHEMMANN, JENNA SUTELA, YOUNG-JUN TAK, SLAVS AND TATARS, ANNA VIRNICH et al., initiated by Juliet Kothe and Natanja von Stosch in conjunction with their publication Boobs in the Arts—Fe:male Bodies in Pictorial History, which will be released by Distanz Verlag in September.
The exhibition picks up on selected concerns in the publication. The paintings, photographs, sculptures, and textile works on view elaborate on associations around themes that emerge in a sustained engagement with the so-called feminine. The artists explore perspectives on and narratives about the fe:male body and the breast.
Titled “Supporters Exhibition for Boobs in the Arts— Fe:male Bodies in Pictorial History,” the exhibition is mounted to raise support funding for the publication.
We would like to thank the participating artists for supporting the project with their works. The proceeds from all sales will be shared between the artists, the gallery, and the editors to help financing the book project.
The publication Boobs in the Arts—Fe:male Bodies in Pictorial History surveys historic and contemporary depictions of the fe:male breast, scrutinizing the diverse perspectives on breasts and ways they have been represented since the early twentieth century.
