SHUT UP WHITE BOY

Community Film Screening, Conversations, Fragmentary Responses and Zines

Organised by district*school without center with DAMN* [Deutsche Asiat*innen, Make Noise!], Korea Verband and Cãi Lại Collective

The B&W 16 mm film Shut Up White Boy from 2002 is a collective production by artist and filmmaker Vũ T. Thu Hà and a group of queer Asian American dykes and queers. The antiracist revenge film emerged from queer rage, anarchism and desire in resistance to anti-Asian racism and toxic white masculinity.

On occasion of Vũ T. Thu Hà's and co-creator and musician Leslie Shih Shu Mah's visit to Berlin in October, we celebrate their badass queer world-making and connect their work to forms of protest and collectivity within Berlin's fabric of solidarity. The film screening will be embedded in conversations and fragmentary responses drawn from artistic and political practices to feel out resonances with Shut Up White Boy.

The riso-print zine Shut Up White Boy edited by Nhà Sàn Collective and Suza Husse for the nomadic video art platform D'EST is available at the gathering and, as of this month, as an e-publication with EECLECTIC as part of the publication series POSTOST.
