„It is inevitable that, in addition to joy and success, we will also feel sadness and loss, hurt others and be hurt in our lives. Our bodies can bear scars, as can our hearts. How can we rethink our lives and continue to love with these scars? How do we create art and record annual rings of our life with these scars? (Huang Mei)

The three invited artists* from China, USA/Germany and Estonia outline this complex of ideas with installations, paper works, photographs and videos.

Dr. Huang Mei is a freelance curator, cultural mediator and also a writer. She studied geophysics, philosophy and aesthetics (Master of Philosophy) in China. In 1992, she began her doctoral studies at the University of Frankfurt am Main, which she completed in 1997 with a thesis on „Art Education at the Primary School of the PR China of the Present in Comparison with Germany and Taiwan with Special Consideration of the Cultural Background“. Since 1999 she has been the Chairwomem of FIAKE E.V., an association for the promotion of international exchange for art and education, which has been organizing the „German-Chinese Youth Days“ since 2002. In 2009, she was the Team Leader of the cultural program of the project „Germany and China – Moving Ahead Together“ in Wuhan in Hubei Province, conceived by the German Foreign Office and the Goethe Institute, as well as chief curator of the exhibition „Contemporary Art from Germany and China“ at the Wuhan Museum of Art. In 2017, she was involved in the first Sino-European Art Biennial in Prague. In 2019 she curated the European part of the large-scale exhibition „The Art Silk Road Exhibition“ in Beijing.

In 2018 her autobiography „Love Until Death“ was published in China, the English translation was published in May 2020 in Australia and is now also available as an e-book.

The exhibition marks the beginning of a residency program „MMAE -Moving Meditation Art Experience“, which is supported by Huang Mei and will take place at Karl-Heinrich-Ulrichs-Str. 16, 10785 Berlin, in the immediate vicinity of the “Haus am Lützowplatz “ (HaL) .
