In his upcoming show RECOVERY at SMAC Christian August shows 10 new canvases, which find their inspiration in the rough, sprayed walls of the city.
It is a poetic translation of found everyday situations and observations in urban space on the canvas. A mechanical treatment of the surface and the spontaneous ductus dominate the work. Along with it August consciously sets abstract surfaces, in a radiant blue that stands in contrast to the sensually experimental language of the works. The style, which is reminiscent of graffiti and wall structures, is thus related to the level of architecture, urban space and construction of surface.
