Moving on Shifting Grounds

Artists: Janis Schroeder + Ralf Tekaat

“Shifting Grounds” describes a landscape in constant flux: certainties dissolve, and supposedly fixed orders begin to falter. Moving forward here means moving without a secure foundation. Social frameworks also become fragile, boundaries—both physical and linguistic—shift, and landscapes are in a state of constant change. Schroeder and Tekaat work site-specifically and with an open-ended approach. Schroeder’s videos of the Black Sea depict it as a habitat and transit zone, focusing on non-human presences. Tekaat’s drawings, inspired by Spitsbergen, condense experiences of a changing landscape into inner images.
