Drawn, wounded, broken and embalmed. Marianne Thörmer's works involve a physical struggle. In her first exhibition at Das Gift the artist will present a selection of metal plates showing her inscription and confrontation in the material. As she strikes the clinical and shiny surface of an aluminium sheet with a hammer, the violence and brutality of her application comes through the organic, softened forms on the surface. Her approach strays from the narrative but leads by association and connotation, as her explorations of form straddle the line between the grotesque and the beautiful.
