For some years now, the artist couple Maja Wirkus and Eric Pries have been intensively exploring the architecture of Polish modernism, which generally is little known further west. In doing so, the artists are interested in the narratives and experiences recorded therein as a basis for supplementing a mostly Western-influenced architectural discourse that still leaves out large parts of the Central and Eastern European influence on the jointly developed European cultural history.Research projects are created that juxtapose their own photographic work with research in archives in space-related installations. Their latest exhibition project deals with aspects of the economy of networks and the political dimension of friendship.  Based on the worldwide correspondence of the renowned architect Helene Syrkus (1900-1982), they develop installative-scenic units, i.e. moments of exchange translated into images and spatial structures, whereby the artistic medium is always photography and its extensions. To this end, a series of animated films, objects, photographs and text fare superimposed as constantly overwriting, constantly renewing knowledge spaces.

Maja Wirkus and Eric Pries are based in Warsaw, Berlin and Kassel. Both also work individually.
