Luftunruhe 2
Performance at the opening, 7.30 pm, Nicole Wendel with Jennifer Eckert
Following on from the joint exhibition project at KunstWerk Köln in spring 2025, the dialogue between six artists will be continued at SCOTTY Berlin. The artistic positions from the respective regions, which deal with drawing or line at the boundaries to other disciplines, come together here. Works on paper, installations, objects, and texts will be on display. In addition to installations and wall works developed specifically for the venue, the exhibition will begin with a performance.
The exchange project handles air turbulence as a fleeting, formative element. It describes the turbulence in the lower atmosphere caused by uneven heating of the Earth's surface. This phenomenon causes stars to twinkle, and is known in astronomy as seeing. The atmosphere is in constant motion, images flicker, orientation and sharpness are lost. Even though the object itself does not move, what is seen is no longer reliable—an atmospheric vertigo. But it is not the world that is tilting, rather perception that is thrown off balance—the cause lies in the instability between observer and object.
The exhibition picks up on these changes in perception, which are generally considered disruptive factors in the natural sciences, and translates the atmospheric unrest into a physical and visual sensation of vertigo, where perceptions are shaken, movement is considered a prerequisite for life, and the constant is allowed to change temporarily. The exhibition seeks to explore the artistic and perceptual-aesthetic potential of these states.
