I II I - A RADICAL READING ROOM
WIRWIR transforms into a reading room for a month. On display is a curated selection of artists' books and texts on the themes of resistance, empire, exile, utopia and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. There is also an accompanying programme of readings, video presentations and dinners.
During the opening hours Dani Gal's multimedia project 'Historical Records' can be accessed.
A collection of over 700 vinyl records of speeches and interviews of those who were in power and others who objected to this power.
I II I was initiated by Andriy Bozhok & Stefan Klein and was supposed to take place in Kiev, Ukraine. Due to the war the project cannot take place as planned and is now travelling instead.
WIRWIR is the first station of I II I and we cordially invite everyone to stop by, browse through the books and drink Ukrainian tea with us.
Chaina tseremoniya
The herbs in the tea were grown in the Ukrainian village of Potutory. The herbs in this tea are: lemon balm, fragrant marjoram, mint, chamomile, primrose, cornflower, rose and mallow.
The tea is being served in porcelain vessels by the artist Uli Aigner. The vessels are part of ‘Territorial Claim’ a subproject of ‘One Million’.

Soupe au Pistou
(First come first serve)
"I make ceramics and tableware to prepare soup in order to invite people to share convivial moments. I will make the famous provençal Soupe au Pistou, that I learnt to cook with my mother according to my great-grandmother's recipe. During the event, I will tell the story behind the soup and the kitchenware I made, which gives people the opportunity to tell their own stories."

I II
"In April 2022 we wanted to start the project I II I (Один два один)* an exhibition format for artist books that would be hosted in a private apartment in Kyiv (located in Konovaltsia, 44a, apt 121).
It’s build around a site specific installation that hosts curated artists books dealing with a specific topic. For the first session - due to current circumstances - the topic is the Russian invasion of Ukraine, empire, exile, and forms of resistance.
We would like to think of the project as a more intimate and durational model that gives time and space to spent time with the publications and appreciate them in a contextualized environment with a radical idea of hosting that involves the resident of the apartment as caretaker of the project.
Since the project can not happen as planned due to the invasion and destruction of Ukraine, we would like to make it happen as an exile project for the time being.
We want to develop a site specific setting for the presentation of the books. We consider this project in exile as a nomadic setting hosted by different venues each with unique setups, until the project can relocate to its original destination.
Continuing with the private hosting session there will be intimate moments of drinking tea together (Chaina tseremoniya), collective readings, translation workshops, performances and artworks that respond to the individual artist books.
The books are curated by a variety of artists, researchers, curators and friends with different backgrounds and perspectives as well as random discoveries."
- Andriy Bozhok & Stefan Klein
* The name of the project derives from the street address and visually symbolizes an abstract form of books placed next to each other.
