During her residency at AiR Berlin Alexanderplatz last year, Rotterdam based artist Babette Kleijn explored different forms of ornament in particular ironwork applied on and in monumental buildings like the Volksbühne at Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz. The repetitive character as well as the ornamental aesthetics of the iron fences are the model behind the language of her newly developped work for the foyer of L40. Drawing from the strong resonating presence of written language and symbolism the artist aims to establish a balance between script and ornamentation.
