Anne-Marie Fischer - Blueprints
Ronewa Art Projects proudly presents Blueprints, a solo show of new works by Swiss abstract painter Anne-Marie Fischer. Opening on Thursday, November 7, the exhibition showcases Fischer’s bold abstract paintings on canvas alongside more intimate paper collages, offering an insight into the creative process behind her striking geometric compositions.
Fischer’s paper collaging technique creates the blueprints for her paintings. It is a tactile, intuitive process in which Fischer allows herself to play and experiment freely, capturing fleeting thoughts and moments of inspiration. With her hands, she searches for something unexpected to emerge, for “a response to the energy I put into the work. An intense moment realized visually.”
This intensity is translated into her canvas paintings that contain a palpable tension. Fischer describes the dualities within her work as “fullness and emptiness, movement and response, heaviness and weightlessness, extensions and limitations.” These shifting dynamics reach a balance in her compositions, first in the organically arranged paper shapes of her collages and then in her painted geometric forms that have been softened by textured brushwork.
The title Blueprints is also a nod to Fischer’s former career as an architect. Parallels between architectural thinking and her approach to art making are present in her command of spatial tension and harmony. On the other hand, Fischer's intuitive process is a testament to her unlearning of mathematical and logical thinking and allowing herself to be led by instinct and chance.
