Berlin’s festival for noise, improvisation and ecstatic sounds is returning to the big stage. At the end of July, A L’ARME! will be taking over Radialsystem on the banks of the Spree for three days and nights. 13 acts, 18 concerts and around 40 musicians. The free, open-air kick-off event will be held on 28 July in the Zenner Biergarten – in front of a live audience!

After the digital edition in December 2020, A L’ARME! is relaunching in summer 2021 with a handful of premieres, such as the UnStumm and Skultura ensembles, both of which will be performing live in their home city of Berlin for the first time ever.

Another highlight will be the first-ever collaboration between Kali Malone, guitar surgeon Stephen O’Malley and cellist Lucy Railton. The latter two artists will also be performing at the festival in other formations as well. The Karkhana Collective weaves together influences from Beirut, Cairo, Istanbul and Chicago; the Moondog Project pays homage to one of the greatest lone wolves in musical history; and, organ pipes, magnetic tape machines and wooden objects also play key roles.

As always, A L’ARME! VOL. IX will be about exploring various aggregate states of listening and feeling. In 2020, A L’ARME! mutated into a film that portrayed the festival’s mission in a new light and that will be screened at Radialsystem in summer 2021. For the ninth edition of the festival, all signs once again point to  performance. Live, direct, with physical force. And in direct exchange with the audience – something truly irreplaceable.
