A Canvas for the City: Tresor Foundation Presents Public Art Installation by Kajika Aki

The Tresor Foundation announces its upcoming installation, CLAIM FOR PEACE, featuring the evocative works of Parisian artist Kajika Aki. Displayed on the iconic Tresor MegaFence from December 19, 2024, to January 5, 2025, the artworks transform a 90-meter industrial structure into a dynamic canvas, embodying the spirit of "Kunst am Bau" (art on buildings) creating a dialogue between art, community, and urban renewal.

Located on Berlin's historically industrial Köpenicker Straße, the MegaFence is more than a display surface—it is a reclaimed space for artistic expression, bridging the past and future of the neighborhood. Currently facing a large construction site, the street's evolving landscape finds resonance in the works’ themes of destruction, renewal, and the transformative power of art. This initiative reflects Tresor’s commitment to revitalizing spaces and supporting public art as a vital element of urban culture.

The MegaFence, managed by the Tresor Foundation, has become a platform for contemporary art, strengthening the direct connection between the institution and its neighbourhood, involving different public spaces and platforming emerging talents. By hosting CLAIM FOR PEACE, the foundation continues its mission to amplify artistic voices and cross-cultural dialogues, while spotlighting young talents like Kajika Aki. Her works explore cycles of destruction and rebirth, mirroring Berlin’s own history of reinvention. The installation resonates deeply with themes of urban renewal, cultural dialogue, and the human condition, transforming an industrial fence into a space for art and inviting viewers to reflect on the potential of public spaces as platforms for social and cultural expression.

Kajika Aki was born in Paris in 1993. After graduating from the Métiers d'Arts et du Design programme at the École Estienne in 2016, she began a master's degree in CRFA (Conception and Production of Animated Films) at the École des Gobelins. However, in 2017, she chose to leave the program to focus on her solo project, MOM, an animated short film produced in just one year. This deeply personal work won the Best Film Award at the Tbilisi International Animation Festival (2021), received special mentions at the Future Film Festival (Italy) and Anima – Best of Shorts (Belgium), and was featured in the official selection of the Annecy International Film Festival (2021).

In 2019 and 2020, she created The life and the death of the little mermaid and IMIEAMORI, two 1.5 x 10 meters painterly works created entirely on paper, without prior sketches, in ink and watercolour. Drawing without prior sketches, is a way for Kajika to not think about a subject but letting herself be guided by the process of creation. Through her two pieces she tells the story of her body, intimacy, pains, traumas, and evolution. The works were exhibited by Lionel Bensemoun from 16 March 2022 to 16 May 2022 at La Folie Barbizon. Kajika lives and works in Paris. Under the title CLAIM FOR PEACE, her two works will now be shown at the MegaFence of Tresor Berlin from 19 December 2024 to 5 January 2025.

“I feel honoured that my work will be presented on such an iconic wall in Berlin, especially during the New Year time: Berlin is a city of evolution and change, and that’s what the beginning of a new year represents. Evolving often comes with pain, but being brave and truthful to ourselves makes it easier. That's the story of my frescoes; wishing everyone the courage and the vulnerability to bloom in a sky of Flowers of Joy." says the artist Kajika Aki.

“I love how our massive 90-meter-long billboard transforms into a "Wild Gallery" – open to everyone, anytime, and completely free. It’s a source of inspiration for the city and a springboard for young artists”, says Dimitri Hegemann, cultural creator, spatial researcher and founder of Tresor.

The presentation, at which the artist Kajika Aki and Dimitri Hegemann will talk about the project, will take place on 19 December at 3 pm. It will be followed by an after party open to the public at OHM Club at 4 pm.
