"For months we have continuously faced smearing attacks, humiliations, vandalism, and threats in major media outlets, as well as in the streets and in our spaces. What is even scarier is the normalized dismissal of these actions. We have detailed these experiences in our previous statements and this has been completely ignored by the Supervisory Board of Documenta gGmbH.3.
In this hostile environment, actors with a coordinated agenda have been determined to find any indication of pre-assumed “guilt,” twisting any critical detail into a simplistic anti-Semitic reading and repeating the same accusation again and again until it became accepted as fact. It is obvious to us that the same mechanism of passing the ball from cyberbullies and racist bloggers to mainstream media outlets to racist attackers on the ground to politicians and even to academics is being is being reproduced in each situation. It has clearly informed the mechanics of the “scientific” advisory panel.
We know what it means to be discriminated against due to color, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality, origin, caste, and/or disability. We understand the ways that our different anti-colonial struggles intersect. And that these struggles are faced in everyday life in society at large. We are committed to art’s role in resisting these broader societal injustices. And in the context of documenta fifteen and the specificities of the German context we see that the targeting of Palestinian artists is the point at which our anti-colonial struggles meet, and have become a focal point for attack. Anti-Muslim, anti-Palestinian racism, anti-queer, transphobia, anti-Roma, abelism, casteism, anti-black, xenophobia and other forms of racisms are racisms that the German society must deal with in addition to anti-Semitism." Opening Tue, 13 Sep, 18h at thx again: UMRISSENE WELTEN
An exhibition by Saïdou Dicko
The upcoming exhibition at ARTCO Galery Berlin sets Saïdou Dicko‘s (born 1979 in Burkina Faso) early photographic work in the context of his latest digital collages. Now living and working in Paris, Dicko creates a world of lyrical storytelling in which people are far more than just shadows. Instead, the artist hands out an invitation to engage with the characters on a deeper level, to put yourself in their place, and to enter his contoured universe. Look out for ARTCO gallery at Positions Berlin as well!

Wed, 14 Sep 15-21h at Art Claims Impulse: HYSTERESIS by Dani Ploeger

HYSTERESIS consists of a bumper car that has been modified in collaboration with car tuners in Zeeland, a rural area in the Netherlands. The car is equipped with a Virtual Reality headset and accompanied by a video projection. After a virtual race in a Golf Mk4 over a dike road, a tuner talks about his car. Meanwhile, an endlessly repeating video recording of burnout with an Mk4 is projected. Burnouts are performed to warm up tires for a drag race, as a spectacular public intervention, and as a memorial for fellow tuners who have crashed.

Wed, 14 Sep, 19h at Haus am Lützowplatz: SurVival – Questions to the future
with Bettina von Arnim, Maxim Brandt, John Cage, Louisa Clement, Sabine Groß, Philip Grözinger, Bjørn Melhus, Katja Novitskova, Mette Riise, Michael Schmidt, Nina E. Schönefeld, Markus Wirthmann

The exhibition „SurVival: Questions about the Future“ is conceptually based on the film „Soylent Green“ (1973), which takes place in the year 2022 and created a gloomy vision of the future, that of extreme overpopulation and the ecological problems it caused. The uninhibited exploitation of natural resources, so the message of the film, leads to a social system that is, as it were self-devouring and based on violence.

Thu, 15 Sep, 19h at HAZE GALLERY:  KONSTANTIN SCHNEIDER

A ten-day happening dedicated to the contemporary crisis: Among other topics, Konstantin addresses the issue of money; money losing its value due to inflation and therefore its importance is likely to diminish for more and more people in the future. Today, humanity is again faced with the alternatives of "having or being" and, recently, even "yellow or love".

Fri, 16 Sep 18-20h at Dittrich & Schlechtriem: Keith Boadwee Spiritual Abstractions

DITTRICH & SCHLECHTRIEM is pleased to present the first solo show in Berlin by KEITH BOADWEE (b. 1961, Meridian, Mississippi, USA; lives and works in Emeryville, California, USA). Portrait subjects -frogs, poodles, and fish- are depicted in multi-planer dimensions, posed and peering through cocktail glasses, prisms, and fish bowls, geometrically divided, multiplied, and reflected. The new artworks have evolved now into a realm of spiritual abstraction. On the occasion of the exhibition, the gallery will produce and publish a catalog of the works with a new essay from David Rimanelli, in German and English, available in September 2022.

Sat, 17 Sep 13-18h at L40: Carlos Noronha Feio (sunclipse!) / (sunsight!)
An installation in public space, Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße 27 + 28, Berlin Mitte

With (sunclipse!) and (sunsight!), the Portuguese artist Carlos Noronha Feio alludes to the architect and systems theorist Buckminster Fuller and his conviction that the wrong use of language perpetuates outdated realities. The latter was convinced that we will never be able to rid ourselves of the mistaken belief that we are the centre of the universe as long as we use scientifically outdated words such as sunset and sunrise, for example. Buckminster therefore proposed new terms for sunrise and sunset, namely sunclipse and sunsight. The neologisms point beyond the lingering geocentric bias of pre-Copernican celestial mechanics and specifically describe how we see – or don’t see – the sun depending on the constellation of earth’s movement and our individual geographical position. A simple change of language can therefore change attitudes.

At the same time, the two opposing quotes fit perfectly into the urban planning conditions on site. The north-south orientation of Rosa-Luxemburg-Str. means that the west side only gets sun in the morning and the east side only in the evening. (sunclipse!) and (sunsight!) thus describe concrete phenomena.

A German version will replace the English one in the spring of 2023.
