Tips 18.08 - 28.08

Take our word and take it easy, for September will bring an overwhelming abundance of exciting things revolving around the Berlin Art Week. For the last summer days we've prepared a light list of events, with yet another lovely festival to wrap it all up.

FRIDAY 18.08

18.00 The Artists' Temporary Advertising Agency for Artists @ HilbertRaum

19.00 ∆ Film: ‘Divine Location’ (by Ulrike Franke & Michael Loeken) @ ZK/U Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik

WHY: The former steel plant Phoenix-Ost, which once employed 18000 people, has given way to an artificial lake: the Phoenix Lake. “Divine Location” documents the progress of the construction work, and lets investors, builders, planners, and local residents have their say. A complex picture of gentrification arises that shows unemployment in the neighboring streets of the Phoenix Lake. The screening will be accompanied with a dinner (register via: speisekino(at)zku-berlin.org).

FRIDAY 25.08

19.00 Group exhibition – „Tunnel below / Skyjacking above: deconstructing the border“ @ nGbK

WHY: Can border phenomena be examined as part of a larger neoliberal agenda implemented through a war of images, habituating us to increasingly violent realities? Artists familiar with different border contexts are invited to create and present work in the exhibition addressing the immediate impact of Border Regimes today, such as the growing barriers of Europe, the border between the USA and Mexico, and the militarized eco-system of the Jordan River.

SATURDAY 26.08

19.00 Surya Gied – „Looking Into The Distance Becomes Difficult“ @ Galerie Wedding

WHY: In her solo exhibition of paintings, Surya Gied explores the feeling of fragmentation in the context of contemporary spiritual life modalities and the resulting abstraction of one's own identity. Since the age of digitalization, the human experience appears collaged. Gied's interdisciplinary painting deals with this fragmentation in the tension ratio of color surface and architectural space as well as with the removal of figures into an abstraction of the forms.
