WHY: “Sanctuary” is a performative evening within the group exhibition “BlueMajik”, lead by Hanne Lippard and Caique Tizzi. Hanne Lippard explores the voice as a medium. Her work is conveyed through a variety of disciplines such as film, audio, and performance. Caique Tizzi is the co-founder of Agora collective, which places its interest on investigating the development of social art practice, experimental methods of group work, and interdisciplinary processes.

20.00 Itinerant interlude #26: Seth Josel, Banjo @ L40

WHY:” Itinerant Interludes” presents short performative interpolations by outstanding musicians in select galleries and institutions throughout Berlin. For #26, renowned banjo-man Seth Josel will play  at, in, around, and on Michael Beutler’s site-specific installation “Wechselstuben” as a part of “Make City: Festival for Architecture and Urban Realities”.

18.00 How to Read in the Dark? @ Grimmuseum

WHY: The touring exhibition "How to Read in the Dark?" present  20 contemporary Lappish artists. The exhibition, curated by the Estonian artist and curator Tanel Rander, engages with the idea of darkness from different perspectives; in its physical, social, and metaphoric sense. It relates with the location of Lapland, but also with the ongoing geopolitical reality in Europe, which could be seen as the arrival of a new dark era.

WHY: “Mount Analogue” takes inspiration from the title of René Daumal's novel. Translated into a group show, “Mount Analogue” checks the limits of the knowledge, the belief and the truth through the artworks by Rafel G. Bianchi, Martin Llavaneras and Teresa Solar Abboud. Their works are linked by the main concepts of the project: the narrative and metaphysical speculation about the artistic fact, and the fascination for Daumal's literature.

WHY: The exhibition “No Lightning Strikes the Nettle” celebrates Midsummer as a tender moment full of promise, anxiety, and immanent change, epitomized in the works of artists Ulu Braun, Christina Kral, Niina Lehtonen Braun, Pasi Mäkelä, and Vieno Motors. WHY: The first Berlin Food Art Week brings together galleries, art spaces, restaurants and cafes. Organized by Entretempo Kitchen Gallery, the week focuses on discovering the different connections art can make with food, and presents a wide panorama of modern and contemporary art. BFAW also shows design, photography, collages, performances, food experiences and books related to the topic. WHY: “The Human Apparatus” gathers a selection of artists from various generations whose work is deeply engaged in a fundamental (re-)assessment of the photographic image and its representation. Consequently they have left behind traditional boundaries, discourses and conventions to align the medium’s fundamentals with properties more associated with other classical genres. What links the artists together is a common shift from ‘taking’ a photograph to ‘making’ a photograph—essentially reinventing the medium according to a completely different societal context.

18.00 Donna Huanca & Przemek Pyszczek – Muscle Memory @ Peres Projects

WHY: Peres Projects presents a two-person exhibition with new works by Bolivian-American artist Donna Huanca and Polish-Canadian artist Przemek Pyszczek. Both artists create work that draws from their experiences of social and cultural displacement as first generation North Americans. New paintings and a performance by Huanca, and sculptural forms by Pyszczek both relate to the human body as well as question social control and veracity of memory.
