MARÍA MAGDALENA CAMPOS-PONS The Rise of the Butterflies On view until 31 December 2021

"The Rise of the Butterflies is dedicated to Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old African-American woman who was fatally shot by police in her Louisville, Kentucky, apartment on March 13, 2020. The injustice and violence of her death entered mainstream awareness and was part of the social justice uprising in the summer of 2020. In memory of her late sister, Ju'Niyah Palmer let Monarch butterflies fly on 25/09/20. This species of butterfly reaches Michoacán, Mexico, on its annual migrations on Dia de Muertos, a traditional place where the dead are commemorated. The style and colouring of the floral symbolism used there, shown in "The Rise of the Butterflies", is reminiscent of these celebrations of the dead.

Alicja Kwade "In Abwesenheit" until 04.04.2022

The work of Alicja Kwade is inspired by scientific, philosophical and social enquiry. Here, she explores how a person and their physical presence in space can be described from various methodological perspectives. Maybe gets a bit too into the methods and intellectual process of the idea and has lost a bit of the bold absurdity and dry humor of earlier work, but definitely worth visiting!

Open Wed – Mo 10 am – 6 pm
Museumsunday: Every first Sunday free admission for all visitors!

JULIAN CHARRIÈRE SOOTHSAYERS UNTIL NOV 27TH @DITTRICH & SCHLECHTRIEM

Anyone who is anyone has seen this show. What are you waiting for? Charrière continues to explore post-romantic constructions of “nature,” staging tensions between geological timescales and those relating to humankind. In Soothsayers, the viewers are confronted with an installation focused on materiality and light that induces a meditative, trance-like state.
