Music Tips 22.01 - 03.02

Music-wise, in the next two weeks, CTM Festival will clearly steal the attention as the highlight (of the year?) in Berlin (and worldwide?). Beyond the festival program, there are few more very special gigs not-to-be-missed. To support our „attend all“ spirit in practice, we will be giving away some free tickets, so stay tuned and follow our Facebook feed.

THURSDAY 22.01

19.00 Eine Welt Aus Hack – Thee Ausstellung: "I don't have it, Problems, at all" @ Westgermany

WHY: Eine Welt Aus Hack, your good old gigpromoter, bookerbuddy, hobbyartist carries out its annual self-reflection. For the fourth time again, they will be looking into their creative group practice collectively abstractly, directly, humorously, theoretically, practically, hypothetically and literally. Arts of all kinds and special performances will fill this three-day fete.

Westgermany / Skalitzer Str. 133, 10999 Berlin, U Kottbusser Tor / ongoing until 24.01 / free entry / more info

SUNDAY 25.01

16.00 Sunday Funday: Skiing (Live, LP Release) + Chikiss (Live) + Jaakko Eino Kalevi (DJ) + Tattoos, Karaoke, Zines, Tasty Treats and More @ Monarch

WHY: Once again, now for the fourth time, Sunday Funday  makes us love the dullest day of the week. Save the afternoon for live sets from local favs Skiing (LP Release show), recent transplant from St. Petersburg Chikiss, a DJ set from Jaakko Eino Kalevi (Domino Records), tattoos from Pete Corrie, Karaoke (after the live stuff) and zines by Pretty Neukölln, real deal Argentinian alfajores, and coffee & tea.

Monarch / Skalitzer Str. 134 - 1st floor, 10999 Berlin, U Kottbusser Tor /

TUESDAY 27.01

21.00 Naomi Punk @ Westgermany

WHY: „Their lyrics emote the political theory texts printed from Evergreen College's library melded with themes of deranged witchcraft, reminiscent of The Blair Witch Project. Sprinkle in a healthy dose of Ingmar Bergman's psychological thriller Persona and you have an abstract sketch of the entity that is Naomi Punk. Oh, and a serious appreciation for Enya too.“(Paula Mejia) – That and the rush that comes with their healthy post punk sound tells us not to miss this gig.

Westgermany / Skalitzer Str. 133, 10999 Berlin, U Kottbusser Tor / more info

20.30 Shameless/LImitless: ONWE (Capitalist Records, Brooklyn) + Jack Chosef (Mansions & Millions, Berlin) @ Loophole

WHY: Onwe is the music project of the internet performance artist David Welles; a satire on Brooklyn's commercial "underground" scene, the commodified youth culture and the spread of corporate language in American art. Welles delivers a typical Brooklynite story with a dream pop soundtrack:  22-year-old model / musician arrives to New York City to become a rock star, and makes this dream come true by climbing up the social media ladder.

Loophole / Boddinstr. 60, 12053 Berlin, U Rathaus Neukölln / more info

THURSDAY 29.01

20.00 TR/ST @ Schwuz

WHY: After two succesful albums („TR/ST“ and last year's „Joyland“), and countless sold-out shows all over Europe, TR /ST is making another trip to Berlin, this time playing at Schwuz, along with support act Sixth June. The band's electro-goth sound blends perfectly with Berlin aesthetic. Post-everything with a sparkling dark coating – if that sounds appealing enough, make it a date, you will hardly regret.

Schwuz / Rollbergstr. 26, 12053 Berlin, U Rathaus Neukölln / more info

SATURDAY 31.01

21.00 The One-Hit Parade Premierenparty w/ Black Cracker & Isolation Berlin (live) @ ACUD MACHT NEU

WHY: The Berlin reinvention of legendary music shows such as "Top of the Pops" or "Formel Eins" will start online on 17.02 with the second season of unique videoclips. Curator and show-host Martin Hossbach has invited 10 great Berlin bands, who will present themselves to a global online audience with just one song. TUESDAY 03.02

20.00 White Fence + Ultimate Painting @ Kantine am Berghain

WHY: White Fence is the complex band structure of the US West Coast musician Tim Presley. In addition to his activities as a guitarist for The Fall, Darker My Love, and the occasional collaborations with Ty Segall, Presley's own band moves further towards compositionally complex garage rock bands. Support band Ultimate Painting will prolongue and sweeten up the night with beautiful guitar-pop.

Kantine am Berghain / Rüdersdorfer Str. 70, 10243 Berlin, S+U Warschauer Str. / more info
