We seem to be moving towards winter backwards in the calendar and Berliners always react unexpectedly to extended sunshine.

First the article of Kai Müller in Tagesspiegel informing extensively about how the so called Seven (powerful galleries) rule the scene in Berlin, then this email on Saturday from a gallery on Rudi Dutchke str to take part in a boycott of Index.  Yeah. I know. Boom! Most people I mentioned this over the weekend, actually all of them, answered: Why? Wieso? Warum? Of course there must be a selection of the participating galleries. I said, yeah, sure, ahham... and I get it to an extend, but then again, no, I don’t really get it... If you were to map a city, you would not only name the streets you like to walk in, you would name them all, so people can find their way around it. If they don’t like it one area, they will probably not buy a house there. If you do a dictionary about a language, you mention all the words, even the ugly ones: boycott, Jury, Willkür...

I don’t see why an art scene guide should be any different (or a tourist guide for that matter). Isn't the high fee a “natural“ way of selecting anyway (well nothing in the economical system seems natural right now but...hey..)? The public, the market and good art will determine the rest. Of course if they did take them all, it should not be called Index, but Almanac, so I guess that s that... 
I wrote back to the gallery, informing her she can be in bpigs.com anytime, we accept anyone with enough humor. They did not write back. Maybe they are already face down in some river...
