Tinsel Angels: Sophia Zarders

Sophia Zarders draws upon her newfound Berliner lifestyle as inspiration for her latest exhibition - Tinsel Angels. Humor mixes with depression and anxiety as the artist whisks the viewer into her internal sphere of thought, where works with a heavy basis on religious imagery and pop cultural themes come to life as emotionally transfixing self-portraits. Zarders also depicts her experiences as a Black American who must face the eventuality of returning to a tumultuous land. Her time in Berlin has been captured in a journal turned graphic novel, which combines inner fantasies with realities of Zarder's residency and Southern Californian life.
