Olivia Parkes - FACE OFF

Olivia Parkes makes paintings that talk about pictures: the way we make them, the way we see them, and the way those processes affect each other.  Her wide-ranging source material draws from silent cinema, twentieth century history, Americana, and crime tabloids. Images get stitched together and saturated, dripping with color. Drop by and see her work at Das Gift on January 17, 2014, for fresh paintings that still look wet, pictures that look made.

Bio: Olivia Parkes is a British-American artist who uses painting to explore the ways in which media conditions our perception of both history and everyday life.  Her work responds as much to paint’s historical associations as to contemporary visual culture. Olivia studied Fine Art at Wesleyan University and the Universität der Künste in Berlin, where she currently lives and works.
