Jeanno Gaussi born in Kabul, Afghanistan lives and works in Berlin. The catalyst for this project was the Facebook reactions to the murder of Khaled Idris Bahray at the beginning of the year in Dresden.
SOS is the international morse code distress signal, used for emergencies at sea. In the context of her work SOS – Save our Souls Gaussi reflects on the possibility of salvation for both sides. What are the hopes of saving a society who threatens refugees and thus becomes an assassin itself? What are the hopes of saving the souls of those who seek refuge from war and terror, but who are met with new danger upon arrival?
The installation consists of a wooden flagpole, which is engraved with selected quotations from Facebook. The flag is printed in a workshop in Pulsnitz, Saxony by using the traditional Blaudruck. The words “Save Our Souls“ are embroidered  with the typography Leipziger Antiqua by Albert Kapr.
Jeanno Gaussi has been shown previously at documenta in 2012 and recently at the 12th Havana Biennial.
