Kathrin Sonntag’s works disorient the viewer in many ways. Like “visual stumbling blocks,” they lead us to make mental mistakes, create ambiguities about space, time, object, or architecture, and blur the boundary between photographic representation and reality. Using photographic wallpaper and delicately composed installations, the artist transforms exhibition spaces into places of sharpened perception. Sonntag’s new exhibition at the KINDL – Centre for Contemporary Art presents collages, slide projections, and photo installations, including the installation "Problems and Solutions," in which she uses objects and photographs to document temporary solutions to everyday problems. She investigates imaginative and crude ad-hoc solutions, which were meant to be a temporary solution, but often are kept as they are.
