Frederik Poppe - Bombe

"Bombe" (bomb) is related to the outbreak of World War I and II - 100 respectively 75 years ago. Europe changed considerably, however, the direct impact of armed conflict are evident not only in regions, where armed conflicts lie in the recent past (eg. Bosnia, Kosovo). Even in parts of the continent that have been considered pacified for almost 70 years, we are reminded almost daily of the use of ordnance. Many people in Germany see corresponding messages primarily to news on traffic and transport, which report of road closures due to explosive ordnance disposal.

Due to explosive rescues it is still necessary to evacuate whole neighborhoods. Even today sometimes buildings are damaged by explosive devices massively. Only recently the second world war produced one more victim: An excavator driver died when a so-called air mine exploded during construction work in Euskirchen 01.03.2014.

The exhibition is an installation based on a piece of disarmed ammunition. The installation demonstrates the influences of war on our lives decades later. Ordnance from the world wars still have to be removed into safety. Intact ammunition are still among the buildings, in which we live as well as in parts of the landscape and waters that we use.

Furthermore, in the exhibition you will find paintings dealing with people's lives after recent conflicts in Europe. Photographs and sketches that were made in Croatia, Bosnia and Serbia were used as basis.
