Deutsche Bank 'Artist of the Year' 2015 - Koki Tanaka

Opening on March 26, 2015,  you can explore how the word “mindfulness” takes on a new meaning in the work of Koki Tanaka. As the “Artist of the Year” of Deutsche Bank, his work will be shown in the KunstHalle. People form efficient social communities in emergency situations. But why do they fall apart when things are going better? What happens when nine pianists play a grand piano at the same time? How do we live and love, how do we save ourselves—how do we make art? These are some of the questions addressed by the Japanese artist Koki Tanaka.

With astonishingly simple experimental setups, the Japanese artist showed at the 2013 Venice Biennale the challenges collaborations can pose. Tanaka is concerned with communication, power, ethics, as well as the aesthetics and form of the jointly produced artwork.
