Christiane Möbus. Holzauktion Hannah-Höch-Preis des Landes Berlin 2018

Christiane Möbus is the recipient of the 2018 Hannah-Höch-Preis for her outstanding life’s work as an artist. Since 1970, she has been creating emblematic, poetic images with her installations, performances, photography, film, and texts. Her works refer always to existential subjects; her frequently remarkable associations lead us to make discoveries about ourselves. In Nikolaikirche in Berlin-Mitte, she will present an exhibition showing her work: some older works, some more recent ones, and several of her very latest creations. One of the older works that will be presented is entitled Versetze Ladung (Displaced Load, 1983), and consists of two horizontally arranged lorry axes; the recent works include Sieger (Victor, 2015), a pommel horse with a laurel wreath that has fallen off it. These installations will be complemented by brand new works that deal with the phenomena of metamorphosis and movement. The work Wood Auction, an arrangement of 290 million old petrified tree trunks, refers to the construction boom and the profiteering from it one hundred years ago and again today.
