ANJA SCHWÖRER New Style ... New Feeling ...

Instead of an additive application of color the artist uses a complex bleaching process on industrially produced fabrics.

Depending on whether the bleach has been sprayed or tossed onto, the fabric been folded, knotted or partially reserved, abstract patterns with delicate hues develop, visualizing the separate steps of their development. The bleach with its autonomy is integrated in the painter- ly process, generating an unpredictable image. It is a substractive process contrary to the additive appli- cation of color in the traditional painting process. The color is revoked and extinguished from the painting. The artist produces paintings which oscillate between kaleidoscopic space with crystals sharp edges, real fixed folds within the fabric and peculiarly illusionistic space hidden behind flat, monochrome patterns and fabric collages.
