What Did I Not Miss/ What Did I Not Miss 13.03 - 15.03

The press releases are quite often complicated exercises in linguistics, and end up as an independent entity that actually has very little to do with the show. In this case, press release was an integral part, and the show really felt complete after reading the description structured as a short story. The imaginative text was just as interesting as the installations.

Birgit Brenner - Selbst Schuld @ Galerie EIGEN + ART
The tiny but shiny two-day exhibition by Marianne Thörmer consisted of several aluminium plates "ruined" with a hammer. Although altered through some sort of an act of violence, the shiny metal surfaces produced quite beautiful distorted reflections, and the new forms that appeared gave it a completely opposite character - soft, imperfect, and kind of alive.
The show named "Pour la soupe" was, indeed, very appetitlich. It reminded me how much I like to see octopus and fish well baked on my plate, and evoked lots of gastronomic and other memories of summertime on the Adriatic coast.

Gerhard Winkler - Pour La Soupe @ Kuckei + Kuckei
Falk Haberkorn examines the border between image and language, formation and formulation, photography and text, and deals with memory and tradition, preservation and erasure, conferment and loss. His show at KLEMM'S felt like a perfect place to dig deep into your thoughts and the subconscious, through writings and images on the walls. It probably had a lot to do with the cosy Freud couch...
